In this period of the year, digital cameras are very popular choices for gifts. There is a wide variety of digital cameras to choose from, so the choice can be difficult. It also depends on how much money you want to spend.
Because choosing a digital camera can be so hard, you should answer a few questions first, to make sure you pick the best one.
Where to start when you're looking for a digital camera?
The number one question when choosing a digital camera, is what exactly do you want to do with it. The second one is how much you want to spend on it.
These are some questions that you should also consider answering when you're looking for a camera:
* What kind of photography do you want to do? Action, landscapes, wildlife, snaps, macro or portraits?
* What kind of money are you willing to spend?
* Do you intend to store the photos on the computer, or to print them?
* How many pixels do you need, and what resolution do you want from a camera?
* How many photos can the memory card store?
* What lens does it have?
* Are you looking for specific features? Like a certain zoom, manual, auto, image stabilization or alternate lenses?
* Does it have optical zoom, or just digital?
* Did you do any serious photography until now?
* Are you going to use the Auto mode, or you want to use the manual mode so you can learn more.
* Are you willing to carry with you tripods, lenses or a bigger camera?
* Are you looking for a DSLR, a compact or a compromise?
* Are you going to take those photos during a certain time of the day or in certain lighting conditions? At night, during the day, inside, outside.
If a few snaps here and there is all you want, then a cheap digital camera might be the only thing you need. It also has the advantage of being simpler to use than a more expensive camera, which is full of options.
However, if you want something advanced and you don't mind learning how to use a more complex camera, than something professional, like a DSLR, is what you need.
To end this article, your choices are numerous, ranging from the cheap and light versions to SLR professional cameras, which don't fit in a handbag or purse.
